The Bothy, Banchory
Site
The Bothy, is located on Raemoir road, Banchory, with easy access into Banchory and benefiting from a spacious garden and surrounding countryside.
The building has been positioned to maximise the solar gains from the south, bringing light and warmth into the open plan public spaces of the house. This allows the internal spaces to flow into the external garden spaces, whilst retaining privacy from public view.
The form of the proposed building and the position of the newly renovated Bothy, together, creates an external courtyard space which links the two buildings sympathetically.
The private rooms are to the North East catch the views, and the morning sun, with an external area of hard standing to accommodate the parking provisions.
Design
The proposal is for a single storey, flat roof, and modern dwelling house. The approach to the building is via the new access formed off the existing minor pubic road. The parking area is to the north of the site and the entrance to the building is emphasised by an extending timber wall, leading you to the glazed entrance. The extending timber wall also serves as a visual block to the courtyard behind to retain privacy.
Internally the open plan space is subdivided with storage wall which act as partitions, and these divides also direct the eye along the central spine of the building, and separates the public space from the private. There are four double bedrooms, each with floor to ceiling glazing. The Masterbedroom has an ensuite and the main Bathroom has a slylish free standing bath, feature slate stone wall and wetroom.
