Project 5

Carnie Drive, Aberdeenshire

The existing building was a new build house, located within a housing development in Aberdeenshire. The occupants liked where they lived but required more space in their home. The existing plan had separate kitchen living room and dining area and the family wanted the spaces to feel more connected.

By creating a structural opening in the gable end of the house and removing an internal non-load bearing partition the kitchen was relocated to into the extension creating an open plan kitchen, with utility, dining area and a sitting area that opens out to the garden. As this was a north facing garden the mono-pitch roof allows for high level glazing that optimises the solar gains throughout the day creating a bright and spacious interior.

Testimonial

We are delighted with our extension and our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner. Although we had an idea of what we wanted the new space to do, without the input from Dab we would not have achieved the level of design that makes it so bright and attractive. I wouldn't hesitate to use or recommend DAB again. The previous layout of the house meant that I couldn't see the children in the living areas when I was in the kitchen. The new extension has provided us with a large kitchen, dining and family area. We now all spend most our time in the new room.
